Rolling with it

The Old Capitol City Roller Girls had a scrimmage last night against the Quad City Rollers. It was our very first "official" scrimmage. It was fantastic! I want to bout so badly now. We worked so well together as a team. I am so proud of us. We have had two other "sort of" scrimmages, one with the CR team and one with the QC team we played last night. But this one it was an even match up. No splitting between the teams. So we were really able to gauge our skill level. We did better than we expected ourselves to. The other team was even impressed. Our first scheduled bout is Saturday June 6th. It is in Davenport against the QC Rollers. If you are in the area and interested in coming to check us out in action...let me know. I'll score you some tickets.

Lizard Birth

My Mom sent me this...I laughed so hard I peed a little...so I decided I had to share...make sure you don't have to go potty before you get started.

Lizard Birth'
If you have raised kids (or been one), and gone through
the pet syndrome, including toilet flush burials for dead
goldfish, the story below will have you laughing out LOUD!

Overview: I had to take my son's lizard to the vet.
Here's what happened:

Just after dinner one night, my son came up to tell me
there was 'something wrong' with one of the two
lizards he holds prisoner in his room.
'He's just lying there looking sick,' he told me. 'I'm
serious, Dad. Can you help?'
I put my best lizard-healer expression on my face and
followed him into his bedroom. One of the little lizards
was indeed lying on his back, looking stressed. I
immediately knew what to do.
'Honey,' I called, 'come look at the lizard!'
'Oh, my gosh!' my wife exclaimed. 'She's having babies.'
'What?' my son demanded. 'But their names are
Bert and Ernie, Mom!'
I was equally outraged.
'Hey, how can that be? I thought we said we didn't
want them to reproduce,' I said accusingly to my wife.
'Well, what do you want me to do, post a sign in their
cage?' she inquired (I think she actually said this
sarcastically!)
'No, but you were supposed to get two boys!' I
reminded her, (in my most loving, calm, sweet
voice, while gritting my teeth).
'Yeah, Bert and Ernie!' my son agreed.
'Well, it's just a little hard to tell on some guys, you
know,' she informed me (Again with the sarcasm!).
By now the rest of the family had gathered to see
what was going on. I shrugged, deciding to make
the best of it.
'Kids, this is going to be a wondrous experience,'
I announced. 'We're about to witness the miracle
of birth.'
'Oh, gross!' they shrieked
'Well, isn't THAT just great? What are we going to do
with a litter of tiny little lizard babies?' my wife wanted
to know.
We peered at the patient. After much struggling, what
looked like a tiny foot would appear briefly, vanishing
a scant second later.
'We don't appear to be making much progress,' I
noted.
'It's breech,' my wife whispered, horrified.
'Do something, Dad!' my son urged.
'Okay, okay.' Squeamishly, I reached in and grabbed
the foot when it next appeared, giving it a gentle tug.
It disappeared. I tried several more times with the
same results.
'Should I call 911?' my eldest daughter wanted to know.
'Maybe they could talk us through the trauma.' (You
see a pattern here with the females in my house?)
'Let's get Ernie to the vet,' I said grimly. We drove to
the vet with my son holding the cage in his lap.
'Breathe, Ernie, breathe,' he urged.
'I don't think lizards do Lamaze,' his mother noted to
him. (Women can be so cruel to their own young. I
mean what she does to me is one thing, but this boy
is of her womb, for G~d's sake.)..
The vet took Ernie back to the examining room and
peered at the little animal through a magnifying glass.
'What do you think, Doc, a C-section?' I suggested
scientifically.
'Oh, very interesting,' he murmured. 'Mr. and Mrs.
Cameron, may I speak to you privately for a moment?'
I gulped, nodding for my son to step outside.
'Is Ernie going to be okay?' my wife asked.
'Oh, perfectly,' the vet assured us. 'This lizard is not
in labor. In fact, that isn't EVER going to happen. .
Ernie is a boy. You see, Ernie is a young male. And
occasionally, as they come into maturity, like most
male species, they um . . um . . . masturbate. Just
the way he did, lying on his back.' He blushed,
glancing at my wife.
We were silent, absorbing this.
'So, Ernie's just, just . . . excited,' my wife offered.
'Exactly,' the vet replied , relieved that we understood.
More silence. Then my vicious, cruel wife started to
giggle. And giggle. And then even laugh loudly.
'What's so funny?' I demanded, knowing, but not
believing that the woman I married would commit
the upcoming affront to my flawless manliness..
Tears were now running down her face. 'It's just that . .
I'm picturing you pulling on its . its. . . teeny little '
She gasped for more air to bellow in laughter once
more.
'That's enough,' I warned. We thanked the vet and
hurriedly bundled the lizard and our son back into
the car.. He was glad everything was going to be okay.
'I know Ernie's really thankful for what you did, Dad,'
he told me.
'Oh, you have NO idea,' my wife agreed, collapsing
with laughter.

Two lizards: $140.
One cage: $50.
Trip to the vet: $30.
Memory of your husband pulling on a lizard's winkie:
Priceless!

Moral of the story: Pay attention in biology class...
Lizards lay eggs!

Update:
thanks for the correction Rich! Zoology specifically Herpetology not biology...

I'm quirky...are you?

I found this on Gina's blog and LOVED it...thanks Gina!
Here are some of Sugar Mommy's quirky behaviors.

I cannot go even one day without applying lotion to my entire body. I put lotion on my hands almost hourly...is that obsessive?
I am addicted to chapstick. This habit is rubbing off on the beauties already.
I cannot be in the car without listening to music. It freaks me out.
I am a fidgety gal.
I cannot handle strong smells. They make me sick.
I can sleep anywhere.
I eat popcorn every night before bed.

What are your little idiosyncrasies? I am dying to know...

I wish...

I think I am in need of a day at the salon. I'm talking the works. Hair, skin, nails, maybe some waxing and oh yea, a massage would be great too. Seriously, my headaches are becoming more frequent. I'm tired. My hair is getting more grey as I type. Not to mention, I am more hairy than I care to admit. I want to walk around in a giant, fluffy, white robe for 2 days. Sipping wine and eating fruit. Getting rubbed and de-stressed. Why are those all days spas so darn expensive anyway? I mean really, Mommies are the ones who really need that type of stuff. Not rich businesslike type woman. The business woman are the ones that can afford it...not the sahmommies! I think that they should give spa days out for free if you walk in the the salon and look like me...what do you think?

Stinky

Have I told you today that I LOVE YOU?
Because I do.
I LOVE more today than yesterday and more tomorrow than today.
You are the half that makes me whole.
May we sit quietly on our porch swing and watch our grandchildren grow.
May we remember everyday is a gift.
Keep our blessings close to our hearts.
May each day begin with the knowledge that we have each other & our four beautiful daughters.
Nothing could make us more rich than the LOVE that we share.
I LOVE our FAMILY, I LOVE our LIFE together, I LOVE YOU!

Looking forward to our night out tomorrow. I miss you!

Weeds

As I grow older, at the ripe age of...ahem...33...I am struck by the wonderfully warm feeling of having "true friends" in my life. Some of them I have know for twenty years. Some of them for ten. Some of them only a few months. When we are younger, it always seems so nice to have tons of friends surrounding you. As we grow older, there is comfort in the handful or so that you know you can always count on. The ones that really know you. That really love you and who you are. They stand beside when up are up and cheer you on. They put their arms around you when you are down. They listen. They give advice when you need it. They laugh and cry with you. They are always there, no matter what. They believe in you. The trust and love between friends is truly amazing. Three woman in my life, I think of everyday. Three woman in my life that mean so much to me. Together they know me from beginning to end and all that is stuck in the middle. They are "true friends." Beautiful in so many ways. Each so different with her own set of endearing qualities that make her so unique. Molly. She and I have been through so many things together. We make up a part of each other. We met in 7th grade. Were inseparable through junior high. Always friends in high school and college and became very very close again when we were both pregnant. I would be lost without her. We are so close in fact, even our daughters are best buds. She knows everything about me, the good the bad and the ugly. We experienced so many of the same things. Have overcome so many hard times together, leaning on each other when no one else understood. I know that in forty years we will still be the bestest of friends. Sisters in a way. I see her smile in my heart everyday. I love you, Molly. Meleah. She and I have so many memories. We started as neighbors, sort of, and then were hired and began working the same day in dispatch. Were kind of grew out of our party ears together. We met the loves of our s lives about the same time. We got married and became Moms at the same time. We have so much fun together. I know I can count on her for anything. We share so many opinions and beliefs about life and morality. I love you, Meleah. Ciara. We met in November. She is so much like me at her age. I see so much of the younger Kimberly in her. She is determined and successful. She is caring and driven. I can talk to her about anything and listen to her talk about anything. I take great comfort in her friendship. She is genuine. I know that she will be in my life for the long haul. She is great with the beauties, they love her. I am so lucky to have her in my life. I love you, Ciara. I am kind of teary-eyed right now thinking of these three wonderful woman. I am so blessed to have them in my life. More than anything, it is a reminder to myself, that "true friendships" may be few and far between, but they last a lifetime, and they are worth sorting through all the "weeds."

Come here little Birdie...take 2

Silvie has radar on the Robin!

There is our feathered friend.
Taunting us...isn't she Beauties?

On the hunt...
We made a second attempt at the robin catching today.
I am sure you can guess how it turned out.
No, sillies, we didn't catch her.
But we did try pretty hard again today.

Come here little birdie

We chased a robin today. We didn't catch her, but we did try really, really hard. I was even out of breath for a while. So were the Beauties. Wish you could have seen their sweet little faces trying to catch that birdie.
Happy Spring to all!

Spring

I am ready for Spring. I am ready for Spring. I long to see the green grass and smell the freshly cut lawns. I yearn to see flowers blooming and little animals scurrying around. I want to take my beauties outside to run free and loose in the backyard. To let them play on the swing set. In the sandbox. I want to let them discover things in the grass. I don't want to play in the sloppy messy mud. I don't want to wipe noses of running snot. I don't want winter coats and hats and mittens and scarves. I don't want to see my breath when I breath out. I want to have a picnic lunch. I want to bask in the warm sunshine and plant some pretty flowers in pots. I want to use sidewalk chalk. I want to jump rope. I want to pull the beauties i their choo choo wagon. I want to blow bubbles. I am sick of being cooped up inside. I want it to be Spring. According to the calendar...the first day of Spring is tomorrow...hmmm we will see.

meme

I found this meme over at my friend Tricia's blog Purechaos. She is a momma and also a photography and get this...a derby girl too! I loved it and wanted to copy cat her...thanks for the idea Tricia!

Being physically fit.

I always look before going to the door. If you are lucky...I open it.

4. Have you ever eaten Play Doh?
No, because I HATE the smell of it!

5. What was your favorite Saturday morning cartoon as a child and why?
The Muppets. I had a secret crush on Kermit he is so dreamy!

6. Are you a "people watcher"?

8. What is your biggest pet peeve in the blogging world?
don't really have one I guess. To each their own.

9. What is one religion that you could just never see yourself joining? Jehovah's Witness. I don't see sending my kids out on the town on bikes for two years alone to share their beliefs inside peoples homes. I agree with Tricia here...thanks for letting me use your words...hope you don't mind!

Call it stuck but I still say cool a lot. I hate it. It even annoys me.

Sensitive, Caring, neat freak, hates to cook, loves to snuggle, wound up tight, witty, with a dry sense of humor, great with kids, not an animal lover, always in the mood for a good laugh.
