Busy Bee

Sugar Mommy has been busy as a bee...get it sugar...honey...nevermind...
Derby is going well. We have had 2 scrimmages in the last two weeks. The first with a team from Cedar Rapids and last night with the Quad City Rollers. Last night was Fantastic! The gals were so sweet and willing to play fair and help one anther. I think both our team and theirs learned a lot. My legs have been hurting A LOT. It started with Derby. It's my lower legs on the outside, from the knee to the ankle. I went to see a physical therapist today. Good and bad. I am off skates for 2 weeks...boohoo. They diagnosed it as arterial compartment syndrome. Sounds painful? Yea it is. Basically the muscles in my lower legs are so tense and working so hard that they are filling with fluid and the pressure builds, causing excruciating pain. The pressure of the muscle is compressing the nerves. Ouch. Wednesday night was so bad I was in tears, and those of you that know me, know that although I am a cryer sometimes, I have a VERY high pain tolerance. Wow, it hurt. The PT said that we need to work on relieving the pressure, get the muscles calmed down and then start slow. I am so gad that I went, as he also told me without treatment and continuous muscle strain and pressure could b very dangerous on many levels. Also mentioned surgery if we are unable to get the pressure down. He was confident that we would be able to get it down. I will see him twice a week for now and see how things progress. Good news, I will still be able to continue skating, just have to take a break. I also learned today that I have very mobile ankles (good for a skater) and that my hips and thigh muscles are very strong. He said this was great especially when I was on bed rest for 10 weeks with the beauties. Good to know I didn't lose all my muscle tone while laying in bed "baking babies". Small set backs, right?
